How/Why: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a motorcycle crash that occurred in Madeira Beach. The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the crash. The crash occurred at about 1:28 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the intersection of Gulf Boulevard and Boca Ciega Drive in Madeira Beach. Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the Sheriff's Office.
According to investigators the motorcyclist was headed northbound in the curb lane of Gulf Boulevard at the intersection of Boca Ciega Drive, when he drove up onto the curb, struck some roadside wood timbers and was ejected from his motorcycle.
25-year-old Robert J.Zaper was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of life threatening injuries.
He was not wearing a helmet.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues.
