Deputies and Tampa Police Bomb Squad Assist Citizen In Disposing of Grenade

The Tampa Police Bomb Squad responded at the request of Patrol deputies.
What: Just after 10:00 p.m., Thursday night, September 3rd, Pinellas deputies responded to the above address at the request of Laurie George, who had reported that she found the grenade in the garage while she was cleaning.
She said she believed the item belonged to her ex-husband.
Where: The grenade was found in the garage of the residence and then detonated on a vacant area on the beach a few blocks away.
When: The call came in around 10:15 p.m., Thursday night, September 3, 2009.
How/Why: This is the latest incident where Pinellas Sheriff's deputies have responded to assist a citizen with the removal of what appears to be old military ordnance.
Citizens are encouraged to call law enforcement for the removal of these items, as ordnance may become unstable with time and dangerous to handle.
