What: A husband and wife have been charged in an armed robbery attempt at a gas station/convenience store in the early hours of Friday morning, September 4, 2009.
The male suspect allegedly threatened the clerk with what appeared to be a hand gun - however it was later observed to be a plastic toy pellet pistol. The victim said the gun was pointed at his head, and when the store alarm went off, the suspect fled to the waiting vehicle without obtaining any money.
The female suspect drove the two away from the scene but they were arrested within blocks by Sheriff's deputies. The couple had their two year old female child in the car. The Sheriff's Child Protection Investigators took custody of the child upon the arrest of her parents. The child was released to another relative.
Where: The incident occurred at the Main Street Shell, located at 2198 Main Street in Dunedin.
When: The robbery occurred just before 4:00 a.m.
How/Why: Pinellas Sheriff's patrol deputies arrested husband/wife armed robbery suspects within minutes of a convenience store robbery in Dunedin earlier this morning.
Marc Johnson and Rachel Buchner-Johnson were arrested within minutes of the incident. Deputies also discovered a two year old female child in the vehicle with them. The Sheriff's Child Protection Investigators took custody of the child.
Both were charged in the incident. Deputies recovered the alleged weapon, which appears to be a plastic toy gun.
The investigation continues.
