The Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a fatal car crash in Oldsmar. The crash occurred at about 8:22 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2009 on State Road 580, just east of Forest Lakes Drive.

According to investigators, the driver of the Honda was seen going westbound in the left lane on SR 580, when his vehicle veered left onto the grassy median, and at one point clipped a palm tree. The vehicle then continued to veer left, came off the median and crossed over both eastbound lanes of traffic of SR 580. Deputies say it then jumped onto the curb and hit a concrete wall adjacent to the sidewalk.

A witness stopped, ran over to the crashed vehicle, saw that driver was unconscious and called 911.

The driver identified as 51-year-old John J. Mrozinski was transported by ambulance to Mease Countryside Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 9:00 p.m.. 

Deputies say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

The investigation continues.
