Death Investigation On Gandy Causeway Is Apparent Suicide

What: The body of a white male, later identified as John McDade, was found by a citizen in the mangroves on the north side of the Gandy
Causeway near the bridge approach in Pinellas County.
Upon further investigation, homicide detectives determined McDade had committed suicide.
Where: McDade was found in the mangroves at the water's edge on the northside of the causeway, close to the bridge approach. The body was not in plain view.
When: McDade's body was found around noon, on Thursday, August 13, 2009.
How/Why: Detectives say that McDade's family advised that McDade had been struggling with depression for some time. A photo album and prescription pill bottles were found near the body.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death following an autopsy.
The investigation continues.
