The victim is a 14-year-old girl who is known to the suspect. The victim is mentally disabled. (She was 13 years of age at the time the crime was committed.) Per Florida Statute 119.071(2)(h)1, no further information will be released that would tend to identify the victim.

Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a suspect for three-counts of sexual battery on a mentally disabled girl.

The crime occurred in a private residence in Dunedin and in the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect was arrested on November 21, 2012.

The crime occurred on at least three occasions between August 30th and September 1st, 2011.

According to detectives, the victim who lives in Michigan, recently confided to her friends at school that the suspect had engaged her in oral sex while she was visiting Pinellas County in late August/early September of 2011.

One of the friends reported it to a school counselor, who in turn contacted the Novi Police Department. The police began investigating the case and then forwarded the information to the Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children Unit.

Through their investigation detectives determined that the suspect had engaged the victim in sexual acts on at least three occasions during the above listed time frame. Detectives also learned that the suspect would be visiting Pinellas County for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

On November 21, 2012 detectives made contact with the suspect, who voluntarily came to the Sheriff’s Administration Building to be interviewed. The suspect admitted to the sex acts with the victim on the three ocassions.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Christian Egan, was arrested for three-counts sexual battery on a mentally disabled minor; and was subsequently transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.

The investigation continues.
