Victim is a 14 year-old female who had just met the suspect. Per Fl Statute 119.071(2)(h)2, no further information will be released that would tend to identify the victim.

Detectives have arrested a suspect after he sexually battered a 14- year-old girl he had just met.

The suspect was arrested at about 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012.

The crime occurred on May 3, 2012.

The crime occurred in the garage of an abandoned residence in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

According to detectives, the suspect and the victim met at a public park in Pinellas Park on May 3rd, 2012. Later that same day, the suspect sexually battered the victim in the garage of an abandoned residence located on the 3600 block of 51st Avenue North in in St. Petersburg.

The 14-year-old victim subsequently reported the crime to a deputy in the area, who began the initial investigation and then forwarded the case to detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit.

Through their investigation, CAC detectives were able to identify the suspect as 21-year-old David D. Corey; and were further able to obtain a DNA match to the suspect.

The suspect agreed to meet detectives for an interview on the afternoon of July 19, 2012. He was subsequently arrested for one-count sexual battery and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

Detectives say there is no indication at this time that there are other victims.

The investigation continues.
