Deputy O'Reilly with a few of his golf students.

Sheriff's PAL Program Coordinators
 Receive Honor

PAL Tennis Program Coordinator Deputy Craig Corry and Golf Program Coordinator Deputy Terry O'Reilly were recently voted "Coach Of The Year" in their respective sports by the St. Petersburg Times Sports Staff.

Deputy Corry coaches the tennis team at Seminole High School.  He retired from St. Petersburg Police Department where he originally started a PAL tennis program and shortly after joining the Sheriff's Office established the Sheriff's PAL tennis program.  The Sheriff's PAL tennis program has been in existence for 7 years and during that time has targeted three groups of players: (1) Kids that just want to have fun with the game of tennis,  (2) "Quick Start" program (beginner tennis),  (3) Tournament players (kids that desire to participate in junior league tennis tournaments).

Deputy Corry has coached high school tennis for 14 years and has won several district and conference championships.  He has taken his high school tennis teams, on several occasions, to state championships.  During the 2009 high school tennis season, Deputy Corry took both of his girls and boys high school tennis teams to the state championships after winning both boys and girls district championships.

The Sheriff's PAL tennis program has been recognized by the United States Tennis Association as an accomplished, innovative, and necessary program.  Deputy Corry travelled to Jacksonville in the summer of 2009 to assist the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office with the implementation of their PAL tennis program.

Deputy Corry is currently assisting with the coordination of the 6th Annual Sheriff Jim Coats Clearwater Women's Open Professional Tennis Tournament which will financially benefit the Suncoast Boys and Girls Club as well as the Sheriff's PAL.

Deputy O'Reilly coaches the boy's golf team at East Lake High School.  This is Coach O'Reilly's fifth season as the Head Coach.

The Eagle's Boys Golf Team has advanced to the state finals the two previous years and to the regionals every season.  The Eagles are the defending Regional Champions and were the Pinellas County Conference Champion in 2005.

Deputy O'Reilly is currently the School Resource Officer at East Lake High School and runs the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Police Athletic League Golf Program.  He is involved in Junior Golf Tournaments around the Tampa Bay Area.

Coach O'Reilly was named Coach of the Year in 2007 by Pinellas County Coaches, and 2008 Coach of the Year by the St. Petersburg Times.  He is a member of the FHSAA State Golf Advisory Committee and is a rules official on the Florida Junior Tour.
