What Is Campus Crime Stoppers?
Campus Crime Stoppers is a non-profit school based program involving students, school administration and School Resource Officers (SRO) in the fight against crime. Campus Crime Stoppers allows students to report crime occurring on their school campus or in the community by calling a 24 hour anonymous Tip Line or reporting online. The information is then forwarded to the SRO for investigation and/or action by the school administration.
How Does Campus Crime Stoppers Work?
Information is called into Campus Crime Stoppers via the anonymous Tip Line at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or submitted online. Student callers do not have to give their name and are assigned a code number which they will need to remember for any future contact. Student tipsters are advised to call back into the Tip Line at a later date to check on the status of their tip. The tip information is referred to the appropriate School Resource Officer for investigation. If the tip results in solving a crime, leads to an arrest, recovery of property, narcotics or disciplinary action such as suspension or expulsion, the student caller may be eligible for a reward of up to $100. If the tip results in the recovery of a firearm, the reward is $250. It will be the responsibility of the student tipster to contact the Tip Line with their assigned code number to find out if they have been approved for a reward. Once approved, tipsters are advised of the bank location for pick up of their reward money, and they still do not have to give their name!
