What:
Detectives arrest a St. Petersburg man after he made a bomb threat to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant.

When:
The incident occurred at about 1:12 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

Where:
The threat was recorded on the voicemail of Sergeant Bailey’s desk telephone in the Misdemeanor Probation Unit.

Why/How:
At about 3:45 p.m. on September 25, 2018, detectives in the Criminal Intelligence Unit were notified of a bomb threat that was called into the work telephone of Sergeant Bailey, who works in the Misdemeanor Probation Unit.

According to detectives, a male caller left a voicemail on Sergeant Bailey’s desk phone at approximately 1:12 p.m. that stated, “Hey Sarge, I hope you like your kids. Gotta bomb coming.”

Through various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify the male caller to be 24-year-old, Daniel Lee Harris.

Detectives say they were able to make contact with Harris, who expressed he did not know Sergeant Bailey and was impaired when he made the threat. Harris told detectives he was attempting to contact his probation officer and somehow was connected to Sergeant Bailey’s voicemail. Harris admitted to detectives that he made the bomb threat, “because I’m an idiot.”

A Canine Unit was sent to Sergeant Bailey’s residence for a search, which yielded no positive alerts for bombs.

Harris was arrested and charged with Threat to Discharge a Destructive Device and transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

The investigation continues.
