Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) have arrested a driver and passenger for a number of charges including DUI, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident and felon in possession of firearm following a two vehicle crash in Palm Harbor.

According to investigators, 23-year-old Anthony Lockinour was seen driving in a reckless manner by deputies traveling southbound on US19N in Palm Harbor, in a Black 2007 Ford Mustang.  A Pinellas County deputy activated his emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop, but Lockinour continued southbound weaving in and out of traffic.  Deputies did not pursue Lockinour.  Several seconds later, Lockinour crashed into the rear of a gray 2016 Dodge Ram pick-up truck driven by 50-year-old Terry Johnson.

After Lockinour hit Johnson’s Dodge Ram, he continued driving southbound on US19N for a short distance before his Ford was disabled due to crash damage.

Deputies were able to detain Lockinour and his passenger, 20-year-old Kyle Smith in sheriff’s cruisers.

A search of Lockinour’s Ford revealed a stolen Springfield .45 caliber handgun, crack cocaine and individual packets of spice.

Johnson and his passenger, 51-year-old Valeri Frederick sustained minor injuries after being struck by the Ford.  Valeri was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital via Sunstar.  Johnson refused medical treatment on scene and later drove himself to Mease Countryside Hospital.

Lockinour was charged with:  Driving While License Suspended/Revoked (Habitual); Reckless driving with property damage / injury; Fleeing and Eluding; Possession of a controlled substance; Driving an unregistered vehicle; Attached tag not assigned; Leaving the scene of crash involving serious injury; DUI with injury.
