Awards and Recognition

More than 120 members were recognized during the Sheriff's Office Annual Awards Ceremony held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the City of Seminole Recreation Auditorium located at 9100 113th Street North in Seminole.

Winners included:

The Jackie Clement Award
Presented to: Office Assistant - Carol Jagde
Awarded for an outstanding performance by a support staff member in the Child Protection Investigations Division. Jagde was selected for this honor for her commitment to excellence and is one of the most dedicated and knowledgeable employees in the Case Assignment Unit.

Support Person of the Year Award

Presented to Youth Services Intervention Specialist - Linda Cooke
Presented by Network People, Inc., Cooke was nominated by her supervisors as she most exemplified the criteria established by Network People of professional work ethics, integrity, attitude, attention to detail, excellent job skills and dependability. She received a plaque and a $700 check.

Captain Louis Kubler Award – Forensic Specialist of the Year
Presented to Forensic Specialist - Lisa Murphy
Murphy was nominated by her peers based upon her professionalism, excellent work product and dedication. Due to her meticulous examination of evidence at the scene, attention to detail and testimony, she discovered a shoe pattern that was crucial to the State Attorney's Office prosecution of the wife of the victim in the 2008 death of her husband. In November 2015, the victim’s wife was found guilty of first-degree murder with life in prison without the possibility for parole. 
 
Captain Louis Kubler Award – Detention Deputy of the Year
Presented to Retired Lt. Fred Spaldi (accepted by Lt. George Brotchi. No photo available.)
In 1992, Spaldi was one of the first members to become a part of the newly formed Corrections Response Team and in 2001, he was appointed as the CRT commander, a position he held for more than 10 and a half years. Spaldi played a vital role in establishing the CRT as a professionally recognized unit, not only within the agency, but throughout Florida.  So much so, that numerous agencies throughout the state have trained with and participated in the Sheriff’s Office CRT academy to become certified in cell extractions and disturbance resolution tactics.  His unwavering determination, dedication, and leadership every day has proven extremely beneficial to members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Ruth and Tim Johnson Award – Deputy of the Year
Presented to Sergeant Kenneth Page, Sergeant James Vickers, Deputy Darryl Martin, Deputy Brian Kirchgraber, Deputy Claudio Dimundo, and Deputy Bradley Byers
The Mayors of Pinellas County selected these six Law Enforcement Deputy of the Year recipients   among several nominations. These six members were recognized for willingly putting themselves in imminent danger to apprehend a violent group of armed criminals.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016.

Law Enforcement Deputy of the Year

Detention Deputy of the Year

Forensic Science Specialist of the Year

Support Staff Member of the Year

The Jackie Clement Award – Awarded for an outstanding performance by a support staff member in the Child Protection Investigations Unit.

Agency members will also receive awards in the following categories:

Certificate of Professionalism – Awarded for dedication and professionalism exhibited in the performance of duty.

Gold Star Award – Awarded for an exemplary act or outstanding performance materially contributing to the good reputation of the Sheriff’s Office, or when a member is attempting to save a life in a non-threatening situation.

Unit Achievement Award – Awarded for excellence for a group effort in an investigation, arrest, or other group achievement which brings recognition to the Sheriff’s Office.

Excellent Service – Awarded for an intelligent, self-initiated act materially contributing to a valuable law enforcement accomplishment.

Meritorious Service – Awarded for an intelligent act while attempting to save a life.

Exceptional Service – Awarded for an intelligent and heroic act involving grave personal danger.
