-Crimes Against Children Unit

Andrew Jin Kim (Arrested)
DOB: 05/04/1992
Address: 6335 23rd Avenue North, St. Petersburg
Charges:  Capital Sexual Battery

The victim is an 8-year-old female. She is known to the suspect. Per Florida Statute 119.071(2)(h)1 no further details will be released that would tend to identify the victim.

What:
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have placed an additional charge of Capital Sexual Battery on the Tae Kwon Do instructor after he forced an 8-year-old victim to engage in inappropriate sexual conduct with him.

When:
The charges were added on Monday, February, 8, 2016.

Where:
The suspect is being held at the Pinellas County Jail.

Why/How:
According to investigators, the mother of the 8-year-old female victim received a message from one of the mothers of the first victims (see release 16-032) that contained a link to a news story regarding the original arrest of 23-year-old Andrew Jin Kim.

Detectives say the mother spoke to her daughter about the matter, and on Monday, February, 8, 2016, she came forward and reported it to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to detectives, sometime in late July or August 2015, Kim picked up the victim from school to transport her to Oh’s Tae Kwon Do for class. Detectives say that while they were in the vehicle, Kim forced the 8-year-old victim to engage in a sex act with him.

Detectives have placed an additional charge of Capital Sexual Battery on Kim.

Detectives say the owner of the business has been cooperative in this investigation and had no knowledge of Kim’s criminal behavior.

Detectives say Kim worked at Oh’s as an instructor from 2012 to August of 2015 at which time he was terminated for being dishonest about work related functions (unrelated to arrest).

At this time detectives are renewing their request to the public to come forward with any information regarding inappropriate contact Kim may have had with other children. Anyone with information regarding any other potential victims are asked to please contact the Corporal Mark Kolenda with the Crimes Against Children’s Unit at (727) 582-6200.

The investigation continues.
