What:
Deputy Paul Martin & K9 Jager were awarded by the United States Police Canine Association with the Region 1 Catch of the Quarter for the 4th quarter of 2014. 

Where:
They began their search at 5480 42nd Street North, St. Petersburg and located the suspect at 53rd Avenue North and Main Street north, St. Petersburg.

When:
The incident occurred on November, 3, 2014 at approximately 10:01 PM.

How/Why:  
Deputy Paul Martin & K9 Jager were awarded the Region 1 Catch of the Quarter for the 4th quarter of 2014 by the United States Police Canine Association. They were recognized for their actions in catching a homicide suspect.

On November 3, 2014 at approximately 9:30 PM detectives received a call that a homicide suspect they were searching for was seen back at his residence, 5480 42nd Street North, St. Petersburg. prior to their arrival the suspect, Barry Sanders, left the area. K-9 Jager and Dep. Martin arrived on scene. They had no starting point and no known direction the suspect may have went but started their search.

K-9 Jager located a scent and tracked for a half of a mile through back yards and over fences until they came to the dead end of Main Street. Jager indicated the track continued south over a fence into a business. They jumped the fence and apprehended the suspect behind a large work truck. Sanders was taken into custody and charged with First Degree Murder, see original release#14-288 for additional details.
