What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a six-vehicle crash that occurred after one of the vehicles struck another and then attempted to flee the scene.

When:
The crash occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014.

Where:
The crash occurred on CR611 just south of Curlew Road in Safety Harbor.

Why/How:
According to investigators, 37 year-old Shawn Glode was traveling northbound on CR611 in his 2005 Ford F150 when he struck the rear of a 2002 Audi driven by 62-year-old John Kroll. Deputies say at the time of the crash, the Audi was in motion and was slowing down due to traffic. Both vehicles were stopped in the roadway when Glode (Ford) backed up and changed lanes to the right -striking the Audi a second time on the driver’s side rear quarter panel as it was fleeing from the scene.

Glode (Ford) accelerated and continued northbound and then struck the rear of a Dodge 1500 driven by 49-year-old Nashaat Malak that was stopped in the outside left turn lane of CR611 at Curlew Road. Deputies say this was a high speed impact that caused a chain reaction pushing Malak's vehicle (Dodge) into a blue Honda driven by 35-year-old Max Atkinson and a silver Honda driven by 67-year-old William Blanton. The silver Honda then went into a VW Tiguan driven by 47-year-old Tamberly Brockman. All of these vehicles were stopped in the outside left turn lane.

Deputies say Glode's vehicle (Ford) came to final rest against a fence off the east side of CR611.

Brockman (VW Tiguan) was transported to Mease Dunedin Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Glode (Ford) and Malak (Dodge) were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say impairment may be a factor in the crash.

The investigation continues.
